What Your Signature Says About You

The art of reading handwriting is called graphology.

The logic is pretty simple.

Handwriting is nothing but an output of the electrical impulses of the brain.

Since it is an output, one can gauge the person/individual from the handwriting.

Now, why stress on the signature?

In an ever increasing electronic world, you just don't write that often. you email, you text, you surf. all that leaves you using the standard fonts and hence everything seems similar.

however, you still sign documents, contracts, applications and more. That is where your personality, your personality traits can and are visible.

think about your childhood. your early childhood, in the early years of school. you were taught repeatedly how to write. your teachers, parents spent a considerable time trying to get you to write in that cursive handwriting that everyone desires. but here is the kicker. all of us landed up with our own style of handwriting, didn't we?

That's coz, we are individuals, with our own personality, our own desires, abilities and learning. Your handwriting is nothing but you expressed on paper.

Your signature, is a snapshot of that personality.

The Basics
I wrote about the some basic rules of handwriting analysis and how you could find out a little bit more about yourself.  The hub 'What does my handwriting say about me?' is at http://hubpages.com/hub/what-does-my-handwriting-tell-about-me

Now back to your signature.

some of the same rules as handwriting apply here (please read here) to.

But some are only for signatures:

1.Size of the signature
2.Size of the first letter of the signature
3.Slant of the signature
4.The use of first name, last name or alphabets
5.Underlining the signature
6.Dotting the signature
7.Any backward loops in the signature

Size of the signature

The rule of thumb is this ' the bigger the signature, the more gregarious, outgoing the person is'

the smaller the signature, the person could be:

- a miser with money, emotions or self

- an introvert

- unassuming

Size of the first letter of the signature

The size of the first letter gives you an idea of what the person thinks or feels about themselves in relation to or in comparison to the rest of the world.

the difference in the highest point of the letter and the lowest point is the percieved difference they feel is between them and the common people.

this is sometimes also used to gauge ego.

some variations are used.

- if the letter is in capital, (S) the more pronounced self-eesteem

- is the letter is in lettercase (s) then the person is more grounded

Slant of the signature

an upward slant shows ambition and a forward thinking individual

an straight signature, someone who is balanced in approach to life and work

and downward slant, i.e. the signature starts on the line and moves below may show someone who is not confident of themselves or had self-esteem issues

The use of first name, last name or alphabets

most people use both, the first name & the last name (family name) in their signatures.

but here are some variations and what they mean:

 - only first name is used - the person believes in him/herself and does not take recourse to family.  is independent in thought and will most likely move out to work by him/herself.  very conscious of the money they make

- only last name used - the person is a family person. loves them, but may have issues surviving outside the protection offered.

- first name letters + last name full - balanced.

- last name signed before first name - puts family before self

underlining the signature

no underline - unassuming person. not too fussy and does not need to impress self-worth or accomplishments on anyone.

one line below the signature - likes people to know he/she exists.  is bound to talk about self but not too much or not in excess.  likes to ensure presence is felt.

two lines below the signature - loves to take credit. ensures people know the favors he/she has done for them.

the line cuts through the signature - tends to go back on his/her word and generally has a tendency to contradict him/herself

Dotting the signature
some people will dot the signature.

most will do so after scratching a line under the signature.

the line is to ensure that they underline their presence, but a dot is worse.

one dot - you should know who I am, and what I do and what I did, but here is another reminder

two dots - dont forget who did this.

Any backward loops in the signature

it could mean any of the following:

- someone who thinks a lot, about everything

- someone who will take everything upon themselves and be miserable till everyone around is happy

- someone who will take go about explanations in a round about way

- someone who may fib if he/she feel it is required.

What you can do!
handwriting analysis or signature analysis is not an exact science and really, you should develop your own little notations on the material mentioned.

I started many years back and over the years started creating a mental model.  How I use it is like this:

- the handwriting or signature will not be the only criteria to work with, for or hire someone.

- I will form a general opinion (like all us do, first impressions) and then take away or add to that mental picture.

But here is the fantastic part!

you can change yourself, your personality, a little at a time, slowly, but you can, but changing your signature.

leave your comments and I will tell you what you can do.

Read Lips: What Your Lip Print Says About You

Much like having your palm read, analyzing the print your lips make when you kiss a blank surface — or your man's cheek — may say something about who you really are. We talked to Jilly Eddy, leading expert in lip print interpretation, and founder of Lipsology.com, about what our pouts might reveal about our personalities.

How To Read
Before giving her analysis, Eddy told us about the process of reading the prints. "Looking at a person's physical mouth doesn’t mean that is how their lips will print," says Eddy. "A person with a very full looking mouth can make thin lip prints, and a thin-lipped person can make very full lip prints, etc." In fact, these prints can even vary day by day. "Each lip print, like a chapter of a book, tells a person's story," she says.

Oval Or Round Shape
And now, here are the individual lip-print-traits, starting with this common shape. Eddy says: "When the outside perimeter shape of a person’s lip print is round or oval, it reveals that the person likes things to go smoothly. They do not like conflict. They do not like to argue. They like everybody to be happy."

Diamond Shape
Eddy says: "Like a diamond, these people sparkle and shine! Diamonds are a girl’s (and guy’s) best friend, and so are people with these lips. They are very successful, competent and accomplished. Whether at home or work, they take great pride in doing what ever they do well. They are wonderful mentors, actively helping others to be successful. They give generously to the community."

Thin Upper Lip
Eddy says: "A thin upper lip says the person can be picky-picky. They are detail oriented and well-organized. They are good at figuring out new, better more efficient ways of doing things. They like to think outside the box."

Thin Lower Lip
Eddy says: "A thin lower lip indicates the person can be very analytical and good with numbers and statistics, or things that have to be exacting."

Full Upper Lip
Eddy says: "The full upper says the person is a wonderful listener and people like to cry on their shoulder and tell them their problems. They are good at helping others solve their problems."

Full Lower Lip
Eddy says: "A full lower says that children and pets adore them. On another note, it says that the person could be a writer, speaker or entertainer of some kind."

Dark Saturation
Eddy says: "This is a cheerleader, a 'rah, rah' person! Their lip prints reflect that they have lots and lots of energy and others are aware of it. Once they decide what they want to do there should be no reason why they can't succeed. They have excellent leadership qualities and are good at getting others to buy into their ideas. They usually own their own business, or at least have others working for them."

Light Saturation
Eddy says: "I call these 'Ghost Lips.' People with this light coloring are extremely tired. They need a prescription for a relaxing, rejuvenating, quiet, totally restful spa holiday! Their lip prints are saying they need some time to themselves where they don’t have to be concerned with anyone else’s wants, needs or desires."

Try It!
Want to see how your lips compare? "There is no right or wrong way to make lip prints," Eddy says. "You do have to put on lipstick (so your prints can be seen) and then 'kiss' or press your lips to paper. Plain, white cardstock works best, but in a pinch anything will do. A napkin, coaster, white copy paper, etc."

What Your Hugging Style Says About You

Hugging was invented in 3500 B.C. as a way for cavemen on the Mongolian plains to keep warm during the months of November, December and February (January was fur dress month, so hugging wasn't necessary). Luckily the tradition continues today. The hug, otherwise known as the bosom kiss, is one of our most basic human gestures of friendship and intimacy. Do you know what your preferred style of embrace says about you?

The Bear Hug

Hallmark: Full body contact with a solid squeeze.

What it says about you: You are confident and emotional. Your favorite singer is Celine Dion. You like Jack Black movies. Your favorite color is yellow.

Side Hug

Hallmark: One arm around the waist or shoulders.

What it says about you: You can be awkward. You go to summer camp.  You like foods served on a stick.

Patty-Cake Hug

Hallmark: Patting the back of the huggee. Guys often do this in conjunction with the Air Hug (see below).

What it says about you: You would rather not be hugging. You are rhythmic, perhaps in band. You think babies are cute.

Ring Around the Collar

Hallmark: Arms wrapped around the person's neck like you are trying to become a necklace.

What it says about you: You are short. You like tall people. You want to make out.

Unnecessary Roughness Hug

Hallmark: Patting, squeezing or colliding with huggee with a little too much force.

What it says about you: You can be aggressive and/or dramatic. You are an only child. You love anything peppermint flavored. You are on the wrestling team.

Lingering Hug

Hallmark: Never letting go.

What it says about you: You are needy and/or in love. You chew a lot of gum. You are from Minnesota. Your favorite flowers are irises but you also like calla lilies.

Air Hug

Hallmark: Arms in a wide arc around the huggee without any of that uncomfortable touching stuff.

What it says about you: You are afraid that you smell. You enjoy professional wrestling as much as the next guy. You eat hamburgers three times a week.

The "Special" Hug

Hallmark: We're not allowed to say here, but it involves the letters H, N, and D.

What it says about you: Bow-chika-wow-wow.

How do you hug it out?

What Your Sleep Position Says About You

Starfish? Soldier? Yearner? How do you sleep? I fall firmly into the Fetus category of sleeping positions–curled up on my side–which, according to researchers at the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, suggests that I am a tough cookie with a sensitive heart. (And yes, it’s true…underneath it all I am a big mush.)

Sleep scientists believe the position in which a person sleeps offers important clues about their personality. Director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, Professor Chris Idzikowski, analyzed six common sleeping positions and found that each is associated with particular personality traits.

The Fetus
This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41 percent of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position. Those who curl up in the fetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax.

The Log
Lying on your side with both arms down by your side is the sleep position favored by 14 percent of the people in the study. I’d adopt this position if it guaranteed sleeping like a log, but perhaps not at the risk of being naive. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.

The Yearner
13 percent of people sleep in the pose of the yearner–on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious and cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely to change it.

Soldier
Are you one of the 8 percent who sleep lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides? Well hello, soldier. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don’t like a fuss, but set high standards for themselves and others. The soldier style is more likely to lead to snoring and a bad night’s sleep.

The Freefaller
If you sleep on your stomach with your hands around the pillow and your head turned to one side, you sleep in the freefall position. You are probably often gregarious and brash, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don’t like criticism or extreme situations. Seven percent of sleepers assume this posture, which happens to be good for digestion.

The Starfish
About 5 percent choose to lay on their back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don’t like to be the center of attention. The starfish position is more likely to lead to snoring and a bad night’s sleep

Glass Holding Reveals Your Personality

The way you hold your glass can reveal much more than you might realise, a psychologist has warned.
Dr Glenn Wilson, a consultant psychologist, observed the body language of 500 drinkers and divided them into eight personality types.

These were the flirt, the gossip, fun lover, wallflower, the ice-queen, the playboy, Jack-the-lad and browbeater.

Dr Wilson, who carried out the work for the Walkabout bar chain, said glass hold "reflected the person you are".

The types of drinker are:

THE FLIRT
This is usually a woman, who holds her glass with dainty, splayed fingers and uses it in a provocative way.
She may position it over her cleavage so as to draw attention to her attributes or peer over the rim to make eye contact when taking a sip - and she may "tease" the rim of the glass with her finger, perhaps dipping it into the drink and sucking it dry.

THE GOSSIP
Again, usually a woman who clusters together with her friends. She may be talking about other people, and can be critical. She holds a wine glass by the bowl and uses it to gesticulate and make points in conversation.
She is inclined to lean over her drink, in towards others so as to speak confidentially. This person already has a close-knit social group with little inclination to extend it, therefore advances from outsiders are not usually welcome.

THE FUN-LOVER
This type of drinker could be a man or a woman. They tend to be sociable and convivial and "like a laugh".
They take short swigs from bottled drinks so they don't miss out on chipping in with the conversation.
The bottle is held loosely at its shoulder for ease. This type of person is always happy to extend their social circle. The best way to approach them therefore is to leap directly into light, good-humoured conversation and make them laugh.

THE WALLFLOWER
Usually a shy, submissive person who holds the glass protectively, not letting go, as though afraid somebody will take it away.

Palms are kept hidden and the glass is used as a social crutch - the drink is never quite finished, with a mouthful left in case of emergency. The drink is small - maybe half a pint of lager for a man.

It may be drunk through a straw, which is fidgeted with, and used to stir the drink between sips.
The style and pace of drinking is an echo of those around them - very little is initiated.

This individual needs to be approached in a gentle, sensitive way, with perhaps a few understated compliments to build self-confidence, but may eventually warm to overtures.

THE ICE-QUEEN
This is a mainly female type whose natural style is cold and defensive.

She drinks from a wine glass, or a short glass, which is held firmly in a barrier position across the body so as to deter intimate approaches.

It is usually a waste of time approaching this woman; she may be ready with a castrating put-down.

THE PLAYBOY
This man is active and self-confident; a "Don Juan"-type seducer.

He uses his, usually long, glass or bottle as a phallic prop, playing with it suggestively. He is inclined to be possessive, and can be tactile with his female companions.

THE JACK-THE-LAD
This "peacock" is conscious of his image and will drink a bottled beer, or cider.
He is inclined to be confident and arrogant, and can be territorial in his gestures, spreading himself over as much space as possible, for example, pushing the glass well away from himself and leaning back in his chair.

If he is drinking with friends, he would be unlikely to welcome approaches from outside the group, unless sycophantic and ego-enhancing.

THE BROWBEATER
Again usually male, he prefers large glasses, or bottles, which he uses as symbolic weapons, firmly grasped, and gesticulating in a threatening, "in the face" kind of way.

Something of a know-it-all, he can come across as slightly hostile, even if only through verbal argument, or jokes targeted at others. He should be approached with great care, or not at all.

'An unconscious thing'

Dr. Wilson said: "The simple act of holding a drink displays a lot more about us than we realise - or might want to divulge.

"When you're in a crowded bar, often all you have to go on is body language.

"To a large extent, it's an unconscious thing and just reflects the person you are and the type of social relationships you have."

But he warned: "The next time you're in a bar, it might be worth thinking about what you're saying to the people around you, just by the way you're holding your glass."

What Your Favourite Color Says About You

Whether we’re a vibrant Orange, or a peaceful Blue, our color preferences are a key to understanding our personalities. Find out what this color expert has to say about your favorite color. What does it reveal about who you really are?

White: Symbolic of purity, innocence and naivete, white has strong connotations of youth and purity. If you are an older person, your preference for white could indicate a desire for perfection and impossible ideals, maybe an attempt to recapture lost youth and freshness. It may also symbolize a desire for simplicity or the simple life.

Red: The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.

Maroon: Harsh experience has probably matured the Maroon person into someone likable and generous. It is often a favorite color of someone who has been battered by life but has come through. It indicates a well-disciplined Red personality—one who has had difficult experiences and has not come through unmarked but who has grown and matured in the process.

Pink: This color embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer Pink tend to be maternal. Pink desires protection, special treatment and a sheltered life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.

Orange: This color of luxury and pleasure appeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving person who likes a lively social round. Orange people may be inclined to dramatize a bit, and people notice them, but they are generally good-natured and popular. They can be a little fickle and vacillating, but on the whole they try hard to be agreeable. Orange is the color of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.

Yellow: The color of happiness, wisdom and imagination, Yellow is chosen by the mentally adventurous, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow usually goes with a sunny and shrewd personality, with a good business head and a strong sense of humor. It is the color of intellectuality and all things to do with the mind. Yellow folks are usually clear and precise thinkers who have a good opinion of their own mental capacities and who have lofty ideals. They may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring freedom of thought and action.

Green: The color of harmony and balance, Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Greens are generally frank, community-minded people, fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price. Green people can be too self-effacing, modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.

Blue: Soft, soothing, compassionate and caring, Blue is the color of deliberation and introspection, conservatism and duty. Patient, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled, Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom. They are faithful, but are often worriers with somewhat inflexible beliefs and can be too cautious, and suspicious of flamboyant behavior.

Blue-Green: Exacting, discriminating, poised and attractive, the Blue-Green person tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. Blue-Greens have excellent taste, and are usually courteous and charming, capable but often refusing help or guidance.

Turquoise: Complex, imaginative and original, Turquoise people drive themselves hard and may be in a state of turmoil under their outwardly cool exterior.

Lavender: This is often chosen by a person who lives “on a higher plane,” who never notices anything sordid and who is always impeccably and beautifully dressed. Lavender people may be on a continual quest for culture and the refined things of life, high and noble causes but without the necessity of getting their hands dirty. A Lavender person is usually creative, charming, witty and civilized.

Purple: Purples are highly individual, fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different. Temperamental, expansive and artistic, a Purple person may become aloof and sarcastic when misunderstood. If you chose Purple, you tend to be unconventional, tolerant and dignified, likely to achieve positions of authority.

Brown: A Brown person has stamina and patience, tending to be very solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. Browns are not impulsive, and may be inarticulate and tactless but they love responsibility and are reliable and kindly. If you chose Brown, watch out for a tendency to be obstinate and inflexible.

Gray: The color of caution and compromise, diligent Grays search for composure and peace and often work hard without reward. Older Grays like life to run on an even keel with few ups and downs. Young Grays may be withdrawing from life and suppressing their personalities. Grays often have good business ability and tend to work too much.

Black: Dignified and impressive without being showy, Black people want to give the appearance of mystery, but their preference may also indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings.

Cure from Color Therapy

Every person is under the influence of one color or another, and s/he sees life through the filter/glass of that color. Yet, people dont normally think about colors. We are inspired by viewing pictures and paintings but dont give much attention toward the nature of colors. If we become more aware of the reality that colors are actually important to our lives and our perspective on life, then gradually the deeper mysteries of our own selves will be revealed.

The color we choose for our apparel and home are the result of our deep, natural interest in those colors. The colors we use for our apparel create an effect on our environment. We choose the color of our clothes through inner inspiration, which tells us which color will be good for us.

It is possible that a color we do not like at this point in time may look good to us a year from now. This change indicates that the flow of colors/light in our inner core has changed. If we pay close attention to which colors are present in our environment, what color of clothes we normally wear, and the color of our food, then we will realize that Our life is nothing but colors.

The light, heat, and color of vibrant rainbow waves create effective vibration on all living tissue. These frequencies create different effects on the tissues. Therefore, with the help of colors, every disease inherited since the beginning of mankind can be treated.

All colors discharge pulsing light waves, which create the feeling of either cold or heat after colliding with an object. The wave length of the color red is the longest due to the slow wave frequency, and the wave length of the color purple is the shortest, due to the fast frequency.
Red creates the feeling of heat, while a sky blue color creates the effect of coldness. Green is the color that creates balance. Blue creates the feeling of spaciousness in the environment, while the density of red limits its frequency and movement.

Different colors create different feelings and effects (e.g., burning and itching by red, warming effect from orange, light warming from yellow, green feels no warm no chill, and jujube affects cold with pinching feeling.) Color creates feelings of byte, cut, hurt, crush or hit, or sting as well.

Through experience it has been seen that patients of stress and sleeplessness are fast cured with purple, blue & turquoise blue colors.

Red, orange and yellow colors are invigorating and help combat laziness and weakness. There is a saying with Color Therapists that putting patients in a pink color environment subdues the emotions of violence and revenge. Pink acts as a tranquilizer for veins and muscles. The effects of pink are now used to balance sex, family disputes, business matters, and jails. Through the pink color, anger is lowered. Under pink, muscles dont experience stress and tension. Even blind people feel relaxed in pink colored rooms.

One day while doing pranayama and contemplating colors and their effect on the body, I received intuition that sunlight includes all colors, and these colors fulfill our nutritional requirements. If we store sunlight in our biological system, then it can fulfill our nutritional requirements. Following this inspiration I use to sit facing towards East before sunrise and through breathing pointed my mind towards a specific aliment of my body and imaginatively directed sun rays into my stomach. As a result there was no need for food except for water and neither did I felt any weakness. However while walking I felt much lighter and I felt I was walking in space, and solid walls looked like as if they were made of paper.

Sunlight has minerals and gases included, both of which are an important component of human food. Food gives us energy and strength. If we use food and light (combination of colors) together it increases this energy two fold.

The best way to absorb colors is to use fruits and vegetables. The sunlight is directly absorbed into fruits and vegetables. However, we have to ensure a color balance in our diet by not over-cooking or deep frying our fruits and vegetables because a lot of the nutrition in the colors is lost during this process.

Color Therapy: RED

Red Rays are found in Iron, Zinc, Copper, Potassium, Oxygen, Beet, Radish, Spinach, Red cherry & Red covered fruits.

In this color the emotions of deep interest, will-power, and passion are involved. During life crises when relationships come to an end and expectations are broken and no opinion or plan works, the color Red becomes predominant in the core-center of mind. When the mind is under the influence of Red, everything seems to be red.

The imbalance of Red in the red-color center (the mind) is proof of abnormal emotional attachments or spoiled emotions.

People who posses the color Red in balance help other people; these types of people worry about Humanity and their race. They utilize all their abilities in their favorite activities.
People under the influence of Red lead a good life. Since they cannot control themselves regarding eating, drinking, and other matters, they are often overweight. We necessarily pass through an era of life when the color Red is more predominant than all the other colors. It is usually during adolescence that the color Red becomes very powerful. It is an interesting thing that in boxers oxidized red color is dominant. A person with prevailing Red color takes special care of his/her health. Predominant Red color people are also interested in bodybuilding.

This color stimulates emotions, produces happiness, and is full of life. In today’s lifestyle people mostly spend their time sitting in cars, in-front of televisions, or in offices and don’t exercise. As a result the epicenter of the color Red remains de-activated causing decline to surround them quickly. The excess of Red causes a tendency towards a scattered-mind, peevishness, displeasure, and tyranny towards people.

The Nature or Temper of Red is Warm. This color has a more constructive ability. This color creates an impulse in blood: if red color is displayed on the back bone in anemia patients then the number of R.B.C (Red Blood Cells) is increased. If a part of the body is paralyzed, then emitting Red rays on that part increases the flow of blood, and the nervous system becomes normal. If the same rays are cast upon the navel and upper limb, then it creates stimulation in stiff veins.
Reddishness in the yellow epicenter increases stomach pain. The increase of red in the lower center of the throat is the cause of swelling tonsils and scratchiness in the throat.

Color Therapy: YELLOW

According to chemical analysis, the color Yellow is stored in Gold, Calcium, Nickel, Zinc, Copper, Platinum, Sodium, Phosphorus, Carrots, Golden Grains, Banana, Pineapple, Lemon, Grapefruit, & other Yellowish covered fruits.

Yellow is the color of Research. Predominantly Yellow colored people have a keen interest in learning. Such Men/Women spend their life full of studies. Scientists, Politicians, and Business people are mostly under the influence of this color.

People whose core-center of mind has more density of Yellow color then normal are Materialistic and they prefer their own benefit over that of others.

Any Yellow colored person is successful in worldly matters because he knows the art of making money and spending it in the right manner. Yellow is the sunlight color, people with the color Yellow are active and adopt a good lifestyle.

Yellow stimulates the mind. If you’re ever feeling anxiety, then the color Yellow will help. In a room where there’s no sunlight, Yellow creates a pleasant effect on one’s mood.

In Color Therapy,Yellow is used as an excellent cure for Stomach related diseases. It improves digestive strength by releasing gases from the stomach. It is beneficial in diseases such as Hemorrhoids (Bleeding), Diabetes and diseases of Liver. This color removes blemishes from the body. Deficiency of Yellow becomes a cause of diseases and its excess is one of the reasons for Fever.

Color Therapy:GREEN

Green color exists in Nickel, Chromium, Cobalt, Platinum, Aluminum, Chlorophyll, and several vegetables & green covered fruits.

Green is a Tranquilizing color. Predominantly Green colored people are full of love, and the rays of love spread from them, which makes the environment lighter. Other people are madly in love with Green colored people. People with prevalent green color are often farmers and gardeners.
Because the Green color is created with the combination of Yellow & Sky-Blue colors, minds of people under the influence of Green color remain very active. They listen attentively to other people’s opinions. People come to them in large numbers to tell them their problems and ask for solutions. These Men/Women love kids and animals and they are happy in their company. The teachers of nursery classes have this color in them in good quantity. Due to the blending of Sky-Blue color, these people have a special relationship with water, lakes, rivers, and oceans. By temperament they are very balanced and don’t get angry very often, but due to being soft-hearted they are often shocked and hurt quickly. These people tend to wear light-colored clothes. Green colored people are never satisfied with their work. They like to explore new grounds and they are very determined.
If the Green color becomes excessive in the Yellow center of the Stomach, then not only these people not only become emotional but also become worried of other people’s conditions. Such people are easily affected by every feeling of life, and keep thinking about past experiences, which can lead to stress on the stomach.

Deficiency of Green-ness in the core-center of the mind becomes the cause of one-sided behaviors and narrow heartedness in achieving life’s goals.

If Green becomes more deficient then normal in the throat, it creates harshness in conversation, and if it’s in excess of normal, the conversation becomes so soft that other people use Green-centered people for their own purposes.

The color Green is highly-effective for helping with the nervous system and high blood pressure. This color in itself contains the characteristics of an elixir for healing wounds. It is the panacea for patients of ulcers. Most of the Vegetables are Green colored; if they are taken in any form, cooked or un-cooked, the effects of the Green color are inhaled into the body.

A combination of Green and Blue colors creates Turquoise-Blue; this color energizes skin tissues. This color is the best cure for burnt skin from sunlight and itching. It creates a tightness in shrunken skin and skin full of wrinkles, which becomes the cause of attraction in personality.

Color Therapy:SKY-BLUE

Sky blue color exists in Aluminum, Cobalt, Zinc, Lead, & all Sky-Blue colored fruits & vegetables, like Grapes, Potato, Dried Plum, and Pear. It’s also found in fish & chicken.

Sky-Blue is the symbol of One-ness with God; it is a spiritual color. The Sky-Blue color in Aura indicates that this person is a master, that he or she governs a relaxed temperament and is versed with spiritual know-how. The deepness of the color is relative to the level of spirituality, honesty, insight, and sacredness.

Sky-Blue dominant people are God-Fearing Servants of Humanity, Thinkers of the signs of God, and lovers of Prophets and Saints of God. The men/women of this color believe the Thinking-Approach of Holy-Prophets ast ideal for their lives. They preach equality, brotherhood, and keep away from dissension.

Sky Blue has more importance when compared to the other colors. The temper/effect of this color is cold. This is the opposite of Red. This color is very effective in treating Fever, reducing Psychological Stress, balancing a shooting pulse, and relaxing the mind. Sky-Blue also helps to control high-blood pressure. Sky-Blue is helpful in making nerves relaxed and reducing Psychological and physical tension.

In Color Therapy Sky-Blue is used in treating diseases such as Normal Fever, Red Fever, Typhoid, Plague bubonic, Small pox, Epilepsy, Hysteria, Heart convulsion, High blood pressure, Thrush, Jaundice, Bile, Eye diseases, Poisonous Sting, Itch, Stomach ulcer, Dental Diseases, & Sleeplessness.

Color Therapy: BLUE

If there is a some reddishness in Sky-Blue color then it becomes Blue color.

Predominantly Blue colored people have an interest in the treatment of living beings. Doctors and Physicians are often blue colored. These people don’t talk too much, but people in their company acquire self awareness, as if these people are like mirrors in which people see themselves. Such people are calm, silent, and soft humored. They posses a quality that encourages people to feel relaxed in their company.

Color Therapy: PURPLE

Purple color contains equal quantities of Red & Blue colors.

Predominantly Purple colored people are sensitive and express this sensitivity in different ways. Purple is the color of Artists and Painters. Until, and unless, we have some quantity of purple in our selves we cannot sense beauty.

If the ratio of Red color is higher in the Purple color, the expression of it will be seen as an inclination towards sex; however, if Blue color’s ratio is more, then situation will be opposite. Sometimes these people are lost in themselves, which often happens with good artists. There is more Spiritual potential in purple-colored people. If their third eye is opened, then they can see the Hidden (Ghayb). In these people the passion of constructiveness is present at all times. These people think less for themselves and more for humanity and are always worried that somehow humanity should benefit from their presence. They don’t want to waste even five minutes of their lives.
Purple color stimulates the Spleen & improves repulsive strength of the body. The color Purple helps to maintain Potassium and Sodium balances. Purple color controls unnecessary stimulation of all glands, including the Lymphatic Glands. This color is also useful in losing weight by controlling appetite. It reduces extreme Psychological pressure and the condition of stress. This color is a great recipe for deep and relaxed sleep.

The color purple is also useful in the treatment of Sexual Diseases, Urinary Infections, Gonorrhea, Frequent Urination, Diabetes, All Vaginal Diseases, Leucorrhoea, Swelling of Kidneys, and Stones in the Bladder.

Color Therapy: MAGENTA

If Yellow color is mixed with Purple, it becomes Magenta. A person under the influence of this color has good managerial abilities.

Color Therapy: JOURNEY OF CONSCIOUS

After spending a certain time in this world, we leave our physical body and begin our journey in another world. In that world we have to deal with the milky light. The milky light can also be seen through the Third Eye or the Ajna chackra.

The milky light maintains its balance and the balance of others as well. This light is also absorbed in things used by the body. This is why the things used by Spiritual People are preserved as benedictions. Pure and gentle waves keep spreading out of their graves and the dispersion of these waves is called Grace. The pure and chaste inside of these individuals is filled with divine light, which continues enlightening the whole environment. People who are covered with white (milky) light waves are reticent and take out time from worldly matters in order to sit in solitude and meditate.

Things To Do On Laylatul Qadr

So valuable is this Night of Qadr that the Quran devotes a special surah to
it “Lailatul Qadr is better than a thousand months” [97:3]
This one night surpasses the value of 30,000 nights. The most authentic account of the occurrence of the Night indicates that it can occur on any one of the last ten, odd numbered nights of Ramadan, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29.
We should strive to stay up at least on the odd numbered nights of the last ten days. If we can't manage that then let us pray at least on the 27th night. If one prays on all of the last odd numbered nights then there is more chance that one may have caught this most powerful night and the reward is of over 83 YEARS OF WORSHIP! Subhanallah! Most will not even live upto that age!
It is a night that we CANNOT miss out on so here is how we can maximise this blessed night:

 1. Recite the Qur’an abundantly

Az-Zuhri used to say upon the coming of Ramadan, “It is only about reciting the Qur’an and feeding the poor.”
Abdur-Raziq said, “When Ramadan came, Sufyan Ath-Thawri would give up all acts of (voluntary) worship and devote himself to the recitation of the Qur’an.”
Laylatul Qadr is the night the Qur'an was revealed so we should spend much of the night reciting it for we will gain 700 hasanah or more by reciting each letter!

 2. Strive to gain forgiveness

One should strive and do their utmost to gain the mercy of Allah especially in the odd numbered nights of the last ten days. If one leaves Ramadan without gaining the mercy of Allah then surely they are the most unfortunate ones and are the biggest losers in this world and the next.

The main Dua for Laylatul Qadr is the following:
Aisha (Ra) said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.' “
"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee" (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi).

 Gaining forgiveness on laylatul Qadr

Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger said: “Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Bukhari and Muslim).
We should sincerely repent for past and present sins with the intention of not repeating them again and ask of Allah Ta’aala to help us prevent ourselves from doing them again and ask Allah to perfect our characters and to help us improve ourselves in everyway possible.

 3. Do much Superogatory Prayers (Nafil)

Rabi'ah ibn Malik al-Aslami reported that the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said: "Ask (anything)." Rabi'ah said: "I ask of you to be your companion in paradise." The Prophet said: "Or anything else?" Rabi'ah said: "That is it." The Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said to him: "Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., supererogatory prayers)." (Muslim)
The Prophet peace be upon him said: “Whoever draws near to Allaah during it (Ramadaan) with a single characteristic from the characteristics of (voluntary) goodness, he is like whoever performs an obligatory act in other times. And whoever performs an obligatory act during it, he is like whoever performed seventy obligatory acts in other times.” – Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, no. 1887.
In this most blessed month of Ramadhan all good deeds are multiplied by 70 or more. Every Nafil one prays one will gain the reward of a Fard Salaah and every Fard Salah is the reward of 70 Fard salaah. Subhanallah what other time of the year is this possible? NONE! So let us make the best of these precious seconds and pray as many Nafil prayers as is possible!

Here are some Nafil prayers we can pray on Laylatul Qadr:

 1. Two Rakat after performing Wudu (Ablution)

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): “Tell me about the best of your deeds (i.e. one which you deem the most rewarding) since your embracing Islam because I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise.” Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: “I do not consider any act of mine more rewarding than that whenever I make ablution at any time of night or day, I perform Prayer for as much as was destined for me to do.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)”

 2. Tahajjud
 Imam Abu Sa'id al-Khadimi said,
"There is scholarly consensus (ijma`) that among the best of virtuous acts is the night vigil prayer." [al-Bariqa al-Mahmudiyya Sharh al-Tariqa al-Muhammadiyya]
The scholars derived the following in regards to Tahajjud from the Qur'an and prophetic hadiths:
 1. The minimal night vigil prayer is 2 rakats. [Hindiyya, quoting Fath al-Qadir]
 2. Its optimal recommended amount is 8 rakats, because this was the general practice of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions). [Hindiyya, quoting Fath al-Qadir]
 3. Lengthier recitation is superior to a larger number of rakats prayed. [Durr al-Mukhtar, Radd al-Muhtar]
 4. It is recommended to start the night vigil with two short rakats, because of the hadith of Abu Hurayra that the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, "It you get up for night prayer, start with two short rakats." [Muslim, Ahmad, Abu Dawud]
Ibn Mas`ud (Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "I cannot pray at night." He said, "Your sins have prevented you."

 4. Increase in Dhikr (Rememberance of Allah)

We should glorify Allah night and day, especially in the last odd nights.
Here are some easy and very beneficial Dhikr and glorification we can do throughout the last ten odd nights:
 1. Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee
 2. Subhanallah
 3. Alhamdulillah
 4. Allahu Akbar
 5. Laa ilaha ilallah
 6. LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH
 7. Asthaghfirullah
 8. SUB-HAN'ALLAH HIL AZEEM WA BI-HAM'DIHI,
9. Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm
 10. Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr
 Or the shortened version:
 11. Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer
One can also recite the durood that one recites in one's Salaah or a Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim

 5. Make much dua

We should be very busy in Dua as much as we can especially in the last 10 odd numbered.
Allah Almighty says in the Qur'an:
"When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me." [2:186]
The place of duaa is so high to Allah, that the Prophet(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim) had said: "Nothing is more honourable to Allah the Most High than du`a." [Sahih al-Jami` no.5268].
Almighty Allah also said: "The most excellent worship is du`a." [Sahih Al-Jami` no. 1133]
Therefore let us devote much of the night of Qadr in dua asking of Allah for his mercy and forgiveness for all of our past sins and making firm intentions to Allah that we will change for the better and strive to become closer to him as well as make our deen a FULL part of our lives and not just a little part of our life as Allah says:
Allah tells us In the Qur'an to enter fully into our deen and not partly:
O believers enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan, surely he is your clear-cut enemy.... (Surah Al-Baqara, Ayah 208-210)
So then will we not make Islam a FULL part of our lives? This is our best opportunity and if we don't take it and death comes to us then surely we will regret it for ETERNITY!
And Allah knows best in all matters

How to Maximise the Last Days of Ramadan

It’s hard to believe that Ramadan is heading down the final homestretch. The last few days of Ramadan are upon us, as Muslims from all over the world step up their efforts to make the most of every remaining moment.

The last ten nights of Ramadan are are the most blessed and we should increase our worship and devotion as they hold the glittering jewel of Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Power, which Allah describes it in the  Quran as being [better than a thousand months.] ( Al-Qadr 97:3)

Allah’s Messenger used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a greater extent than at any other time.” (Muslim).

Aisha (Ra) reported: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work harder) and used to pray the whole night, & used to keep his family awake for the prayers. (Bukhari)

So there is still time for us to redeem ourselves in the last 10 blessed days of Ramadan. We must NOT miss this opportunity otherwise we will regret it forever. We should strive to seek out night of power which is hidden in one of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, particularly in the odd numbered nights.

So this is our chance to get closer to Allah & to gain his mercy and forgiveness of ALL of our past and present sins! Therefore we should put everything into the last 10 nights & know that we will get so much more in return. But if we waste these nights then we will regret it FOREVER!

The following are 10 ways which we can maximize these blessed nights:

1. Sitting I’tikaf in the last 10 days

I`tikaf is the seclusion and staying in the Masjid with the intention of becoming closer to Allah by doing constant remembrance, glorification and worship of Allah. I’tikaf is a great Sunnah:

Aishah (RA) reported that the Prophet (Salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam): “Used to perform i’tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah the Mighty & Majestic, took him.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Abu Said reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever makes I`tikaf with me is to make I’tikaf during the last ten [nights].” (Bukhari)

Women can also sit I’tikaf

Women can also sit I’tikaf at the Masjid with husbands permission. There is a difference of opinion whether she can sit I’tikaf at home. The Hanafi madhab states a woman can sit I’tikaf at a designated place in her home.

Nawafil I’tikaf:

If a person cannot sit I’tikaf for the full 10 days & nights then they should try & sit I’thikaf on as many days & nights as they possibly can.

They can make intention of doing Nawafil I’tikaf everytime they enter the Masjid so a person will be rewarded for the duration of their stay in the Masjid as long as they did not commit any sins or indulge in idle talk.

Immense rewards for sitting I’tikaf

Ali Ibn Hussain (RA) narrates from his father that Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “He who observes the ten days I’tikaf during Ramadhan will obtain the reward of two Hajj & two Umrah.”(Bayhaqi)

Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) reported that Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said: “Whosoever for Allah’s sake did even one days i’tikaf, Allah would keep him away from Jahannam by trenches.”(Tabarani)

What an amazing opportunity for us to gain such immense & abundant rewards aswell as closeness to Allah. We can also take this opportunity to strengthen & boost our imaan (faith) for the rest of the year.

2. Schedule & Monitor Daily Worship

What better way to maximise our worship during the last 10 days of Ramadan than to plan & schedule our time so that we can spend it as effectively as possible. By setting ourselves daily targets we can ensure that we are more likely to achieve them.

Below are links where you can download an hourly scheduler where you can set yourself hourly worship targets & schedule your daily worship. There is also a daily worship check where you can check & monitor your daily worship throughout the last ten nights:

Worship check for the last 10 days: Ramadan Planner.pdf

3. Exerting oneself in worship during last 10 night’s

We should make more effort during the last 10 days:

Allah’s Messenger used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a greater extent than at any other time.” (Muslim).

Aisha (RA) reported: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work harder) & used to pray all the night, & used to keep his family awake for the prayers. (Bukhari)

The last ten days & nights of Ramadan are the most blessed. Therefore we should exert themselves in worship even more during each of the last 10 days and nights, particularly the last ten odd numbered nights: 21, 23, 25, 27, 29.

By worshipping the last 10 nights we would be most likely to catch the night of power & gain the reward of over 83 years of worship! Subhanallah thats longer than the average human life expectancy!

4. Reciting Qur’an abundantly

What better time to recite the Qur’an than in ones of the very nights it was revealed – The Night of Power.

Therefore we should increase our recitation even more during the last ten days & nights. The pious predecessors used to increase the amount of Qur’an they recited during the last ten days & nights.

Remember: The reward for reciting each letter of the Qur’an during Ramadan is 700 hasanah or more. Subhanallah!

So we should make a target during the last 10 days using the scheduler provided above in point 4 and put down a target of how much Qur’an we will recite each day & night. We should try & aim to complete the Qur’an at least once if not more by the end of the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Along with recitation we should also read & learn the meanings of the Qur’an. We should contemplate & ponder over the verses & implement what we read & learn into our daily lives.

Note: We should try & recite Surah Ya-sin everyday particularly after Fajr time. We should also recite Surah Mulk before we going to sleep & Surah Kahf every Jumma. Other very rewarding Surahs we can recite much of are Surah’s Zilzalah, Al Kaafirun & Al Ikhlas

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas & Anas Ibn Malik (RA) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, ‘Whoever recited Surah Zilzilah (99) would get the reward of reciting half the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Kaafirun (109) would get a reward as if reading a quarter of the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Ikhlas (112) would get a reward as if reading one third of the Qur’an’. (At-Tirmidhi 2818/A)

5. Nawafil (Voluntary) prayers

What better way of drawing closer to Allah during the last 10 days of Ramadan than by praying the voluntary prayers:

Allah says in Hadith Qudsi:

….And My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary deeds) until I love him, [Bukhari]

Does anyone want the company of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Jannah? Then increase in praying the Nawafil prayers:

Rabi’ah Ibn Malik al-Aslami reported that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam said: “Ask (anything).” Rabi’ah said: ”I ask of you to be your companion in paradise.” The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ”Or anything else?” Rabi’ah said: ”That is it.” The Prophet Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam said to him: ”Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., Nawafil prayers).”(Muslim)

The reward for praying fard prayers outside of Ramadan is the greatest a Muslim can gain but in Ramadan we get the same reward for praying a Nawafil prayer. Subhaanallah! What other time of the year are Nawafil prayers rewarded equal to that of a fard prayer?

Therefore we should strive to pray as many Nawafils as possible during the last 10 days & nights of Ramadan, so that we can get closer to Allah & gain the company of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Jannah. On top of that each Nawafil prayer carries the reward of a fard prayer!

Sunnah & Nawafil prayers to pray during last 10 days:

1. Pray 12 Raka’ahs of Sunnah daily: - 2 Sunnah of Fajr, 4 Sunnah & 2 Sunnah of Dhuhr & 2 Sunnah of Maghrib

Umm Habibah Ramilah bint Abu Sufyan (RA) narrated she heard the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying: “A house will be built in Paradise for every Muslim who offers twelve units of Prayers other than the obligatory ones in day & night, to seek pleasure of Allah.” (Muslim)

2. Salaatul Duhaa (Can be prayed from 20 mins after sunrise up until 20 minutes before Dhuhr begins)

So we should remain seated after Fajr prayer & recite the Qur’an or do Dhikr up until 20 minutes after Sunrise & pray Salaatul Duhaa. If not then we can pray it anytime before midday.

‘Salat al-Dhuhaa consists of 2 – 12 Rakaats & it is preferable to perform 8 Rakaats.’ (Raddul Mukhtaar vol.1 pg.505)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said: Whoever prayed twelve rakaats (before midday), then Allah will, as a reward, prepare a palace of gold for him in Paradise. (Mishkat, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

3. 4 Sunnah, 2 Sunnah & 2 Nawafil of Dhuhr

Umm Habibah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever sticks to the habit of offering four rak`ahs before Noon Prayer & four rak`ahs after it, Allah will shield him against the Hell-Fire.” (Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi)

4. 4 Raka’ahs Sunnah of Asr

The Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa sallam) said:“May Allaah have Mercy on the one who offers four (Raka’ahs) before ‘Asr prayer.”(Abu Dawud)

5. Two Raka’ahs Sunnah after entering Masjid

Abu Qatadah (RA) narrated the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as saying: “If any one of you enters a mosque, he should pray two rak`ahs before sitting.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

6. Tahiyyatul Wudu - 2 Raka’ahs Sunnah after doing Wudu (Ablution)

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying to Bilal (RA): “Tell me about the best of your deeds (i.e. one which you deem the most rewarding) since your embracing Islam because I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise.” Bilal (RA) replied: “I do not consider any act of mine more rewarding than that whenever I make ablution at any time of night or day, I perform Prayer for as much as was destined for me to do.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)”

7. The MOST REWARDING Nawafil Prayer of all is Tahajjud

Allah Most High said: “Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of the night, & (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn is ever witnessed. And some part of the night awake for its recital, as voluntary worship for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praised estate.” (Qur’an, 17: 78-79)

Imam Abu Sa’id al-Khadimi said: “There is scholarly consensus (ijma`) that among the best of virtuous acts is the night vigil prayer.” [al-Bariqa al-Mahmudiyya Sharh al-Tariqa al-Muhammadiyya]

The scholars derived the following in regards to Tahajjud from the Qur’an & Prophetic Hadiths:

1. The minimal night vigil prayer is 2 Rakaats. [Hindiyya, quoting Fath al-Qadir]

2. Its optimal recommended amount is 8 Rakaats, because this was the general practice of the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) [Hindiyya, quoting Fath al-Qadir]

3. Lengthier recitation of Qur’an is superior to a larger number of Rakaats prayed. [Durr al-Mukhtaar, Radd al-Muhtar]

If one has not memorized much of the Qur’an then one should recite whatever they know or recite Surah Ikhlas 3 times after Surah Faathiha in each rakah to gain reward of reciting entire Qur’an.

4. It is recommended to start the night vigil with two short Rakaats, because of the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah (RA) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “If you get up for night prayer, start with two short Rakaats.” [Muslim, Ahmad, Abu Dawud]

We should pray Tahajjud every night in the last 10 nights for one of those nights could be Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power). If we cannot do all 10 nights then we should at least try to pray Tahajjud in as many nights as we possibly can particularly in the odd numbered nights: 21,23,25,27,29.

We should wake up a little earlier for Sehri, make Wudu & pray a minimum of 2 Raka’ahs of Tahajjud but try to aim for at least 8 Raka’ahs.

Abu Hurayrah (RA), related that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: When the last one-third of the night remains, our Lord, the Glorious One descends towards the heaven of the earth & proclaims: Who is that who supplicates for Me, & I grant his supplication? Who is that who begs Me for anything & I grant it to him? And who is that who seeks My forgiveness, & I forgive him? (Bukhari, Muslim).

The last third portion of the night is the most blessed & dua’s are readily accepted at this time. So by praying Tahajjud it gives us the best opportunity to get closer to Allah & to make sincere dua, repenting for our sins past & present & to crying & asking of Allah for whatever we want.

If we cannot cry due to the hardness of our hearts then we should at least make the face as if we are crying. Just as a mother tends to her baby quicker & more promptly when it is crying in the same way Allah tends to his servants quicker when they are crying.

Ibn Mas`ud (Allah be pleased with him) was asked, “I cannot pray at night.” He said, ”Your sins have prevented you.”

6. Excessive Remembrance of Allah

We should increase our remembrance of Allah during the last 10 days of Ramadan, keeping our lips moist in his glorification & praises.

Surely we will have utter regret in the hereafter for each second wasted without remembering Allah:

Mu`adh Ibn Jabal (RA) said that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The People of Paradise will not regret anything except one thing alone: the hour that passed them by in which they made no remembrance of Allah.” Narrated Bayhaqi in Shu`ab al-iman (1:392 #512-513)

The highest rank in Jannah are for those who remembered Allah the most:

Abu Sa`id (RA) narrates the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was asked, ”Which of the servants of Allah is best in rank before Allah on the Day of resurrection?” He said: ”The ones who remember him much.”I said: ”O Messenger of Allah, what about the fighter in the way of Allah?” He answered: ”Even if he strikes the unbelievers & mushrikin with his sword until it broke, & becomes red with their blood, truly those who do Dhikr are better than him in rank.” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, & Bayhaqi)

What better time to start remembering Allah more than during the blessed last 10 days of Ramadan.

The following are 11 Dhikr, supported by Hadith that we can recite throughout last 10 nights:

Note: We should try & aim to recite each of these 10 Dhikr a 100 times each which makes a total of 1000 a day minimum.

1. Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee - Recite this abundantly during the last ten nights of Ramadan.

2. Subhaanallah

3. Alhamdulillah

4. Allahu Akbar

5. Laa ilaaha illallah

6. LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH-HIL ALIYYIL ADHEEM

7. Asthaghfirullah-halladhee Laa ilaaha illa-huwal Hayyul Qayyuumu Wa athoobu Ilay

Or short version: Asthaghfirullah

8. SUB-HAAN’ALLAAHi WA BI-HAM’DIHI SUB-HAAN’ALLAH-IL ADHEEM

Or short version: SUB-HAAN’ALLAAHi WA BI-HAM’DIHI

9. Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm

10. Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr

Or the shortened version:

Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer

11. Radeetu billahi Rabban Wa bil Islami deenan Wabi Muhammadin Nabiyyan

We should also recite much of durood e Ibrahim which is the durood that is recited towards the end of Salaah.

Or the shortest durood is: Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim

7. Making Excessive Dua

Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an:

“When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me.” [2:186]

The place of Dua is so high in front of Allah, that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim) has said:“Nothing is more honourable to Allah the Most High than Dua.” [Sahih al-Jami` no.5268].

Allah loves repentance & loves those who turn to him in sincere repentance, so repent unto him sincerely as much as possible:

Truly Allah loves those who turn [to Him] in repentance… (Qur’an 2:222)

Many of us rush our Dua’s & quite often our hearts are not present whilst we are making dua to Allah. That is why we lose out on much of the benefits & blessings of Dua. Therefore we should not let our minds wonder whilst in Dua & we should concentrate more, making sure our hearts are present whilst asking of Allah. Whilst we are in dua we should imagine Almighty Allah in front of us & so we should humble ourselves in front of him in a state of meekness & humility.

It may also help if we made a list of what we want to ask Allah during our dua’s. We can then refer to this list as a reminder so that we can cover everything we need to ask him, which may help in making our Dua’s longer & more sincere. This is because we will not always remember everything we want to ask Allah unless we note it down & refer back to it when we need to.

The times when Dua’s are most accepted during the last 10 days are:

1. The third portion of the night shortly before sehri ends.

2. Whilst fasting.

3. Between Asr & Maghrib.

4. Just before fast opens.

5. On Jumma before & after khutba.

6. Between Adhan & Iqamah.

7. After Qur’an recitation.

8. The Night of Qadr

9. Whilst it is raining.

Let us not be of those who pass by Ramadan without gaining any forgiveness:

Rasullullah (sallahu’ ‘alaihi wasallam) said: …the angel Jibra’il appeared before me & said: Destruction to him who found the blessed month of Ramadan & let it pass by without gaining forgiveness…’ Upon that I said: ‘Amin.’ (Al-Bukhari, Al-Tabrani)

What better opportunity to make long & sincere dua’s to Allah than in the last 10 days & nights of Ramadan. If we make dua every night then we may be lucky enough to have made dua in the night of power where all dua’s are accepted.

8. Practising the Sunnah

Following the Sunnah is a command from Allah:

“Say (O Muhammad to mankind): ”If you (really) love Allah, then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic monotheism, follow the Quran & the Sunnah), Allah will love you & forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Quran: 3:31)

Almighty Allah says: “There certainly is an excellent example in Allah’s messenger for he who fears Allah & the last day & remembers Allah abundantly” (al-Ahzaab 21)

By following the Sunnah in every aspect of our daily lives, everything we do will become worship, even going to the toilet, having a bath, dressing & undressing etc.

Annas (RA) reports the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised: “Whoever cherishes my Sunnah, indeed he cherishes me & whoever loves me will be with me in Jannah.” (Tirmidhi: 2678: Ibid)

We should practise & implement the Sunnah throughout the last 10 days of Ramadan for eg the Sunnah’s of awakening, using miswak, of eating, drinking, going to the toilet, before sleeping etc. Then EVERYTHING we do during the last 10 days of Ramadan will become worship & immense reward!

REMEMBER: Doing voluntary good deeds in Ramadan carries the reward of FARD! Subhanallah!

Reviving the Sunnah:

Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

“Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.” (Tirmidhi)

9. Repentance of past & present sins

We should cry & beg of Allah to give us his mercy & forgiveness especially in the last 10 blessed nights of Ramadan. If we leave Ramadan without gaining the mercy of Allah then surely we are of the most unfortunate and amongst the biggest losers in this world and the next.

Best dua for gaining mercy & forgiveness in the last 10 days & nights:

Aisha (Ra) said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He said: ”Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee” (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, & Tirmidhi).

Stand in prayer to gain forgiveness for all sins

Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Best opportunity for forgiveness of past & present sins:

This is our best opportunity to gain forgiveness of our past ans present sins. Forget the past now, lear from it & take lessons from it. What matters is NOW. So ask of Allah everynight epecially in the odd numbered nights for mercy & forgiveness.

When we make Dua we should imagine Allah is watching us and so we should call on him like a begger, crying to him. If we can’t cry due to the hardness of our hearts then we should at least act & make the face like we are crying. We should ask of Allah sincerely with remorse & intention not to repeat such sins again for forgiveness of our past & present sins.

10. Seeking out Laylatul Qadr (Night of Power)

{By the manifest Book (the Quran) that makes thing clear. We sent it (this Quraan) down on a Blessed Night (i.e. the Night of Qadr) in the month of Ramadaan..(The Smoke 44:2-5)

So valuable is the Night of Qadr (Power) that the Quran devotes a special surah to it: “Lailatul Qadr is better than a thousand months” [97:3]

This one night surpasses the value of 30,000 nights. The most authentic account of the occurrence of the Night indicates that it can occur on any one of the last ten, odd numbered nights of Ramadan, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29. It may also occur on any of the even nights.

Therefore we should strive to stay up & worship on all of the last 10 nights of Ramadan. If we can’t do that then we should at least worship on the odd numbered nights of the last ten days. If we still can’t manage that then let us pray on whatever nights we can, minimum on the 27th night.

There is NO doubt that if we pray on all of the last ten nights of Ramadan then we will catch this auspicious night & gain the rewards of over 83 YEARS OF WORSHIP! Subhaanallah! Most do not live upto such an age!

The following dua should be recited as much as possible during the last 10 nights of Ramadan:

Aisha (RA) said:

I asked the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam): ’O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He said Say:  ”Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee

Trans: ‘Say: O Allah, You are pardoning & You love to pardon, so pardon me.’ “ (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, & Tirmidhi).

Forgiveness of past & present sins on Laylatul Qadr

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu`Alayhi Wa sallam) said: ”Whoever stands (in qiyaam) in Laylat ul-Qadr out of faith and expectation (of Allah’s reward), will have ALL of his previous sins forgiven.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Conclusion

As we fast approach the end of Ramadan we must evaluate ourselves & think to ourselves what we have learnt about ourselves & what good habits we have acquired and what evil and bad habits we have left behind.
We must NOT stop doing the good we aqcuired throughout Ramadan as soon as it finishes. We should continue reciting the Qur’an & making long sincere dua’s. We should continue guarding our eyes, ears, tongue and privates away from sin & harm. We should continue to strive to please Allah & get closer to him. We should continue to make effort on our imaan (faith). We must NOT let go of the good habits we acquired & instead go back to our old ways again.

Allah knows our intentions and what is in our hearts and If we go back to the way we are before Ramadan then how can we expect our good deeds and efforts to be accepted? The very purpose of Ramadan is that doing good becomes easier & so it gives us a wonderful opportunity to be able to train ourselves to become better & stronger Muslims. It enables us to let go of the bad habits & to acquire good ones instead. It enables us to strengthen our imaan (faith). Best of all it enables us to get closer to Allah

If we leave all of the good we acquired as soon as Ramadan ends then we will in effect just throw away our Ramadan & risk our good deeds & efforts not being accepted.

This is our chance to change our lives for the better FOREVER. So we must NOT miss this opportunity for we may not be alive next Ramadan.
Therefore let us continue the good we acquired during Ramadan throughout the year & never go back to our old ways.

May Allah enable us to make the necessery changes this Ramadan and for us to continue that way throughout the year. Ameen.
